Already my paper “Plays of Light” was motivated in my fascination of the phenomenon of the light, its reciprocal effect with darkness and shade and the form and color effects developing from it. “To watch the light at its work” and to catch and to document it’s in itself already extremely artful works, is the task of the photographer.

Therefore necessary – next to all the technology – is the ability to see the light and it’s often subtle, volatile and easily overlooked plays. The light is what makes photography possible. And it - that is my conviction - is in the long run also their only and actual “object”. Whatever I photograph - in the long run it is light. And as photography is occupied with the light as such, it is actually occupied with itself.
